Jack Liles
Jack Liles (b. 1944) is a native of Coloma, Michigan. He received a Bachelor of Music Education degree (1967) from Western Michigan University, a Master of Arts degree in Music Theory (1969), and a Ph. D. in Music Education (1978) from The Ohio State University. While at Ohio State, he served as Graduate Assistant Director of The Ohio State University Marching Band. His commitment to music education spans over forty years. He was band and orchestra director at Columbus West High School and Columbus Whetstone High School. He also served as band director and supervisor of instrumental music at Kent Roosevelt High School in Kent, Ohio. His high school ensembles consistently received superior ratings at marching band, concert band, and orchestra festivals. In 1978 he became the Marching and Symphony Band Director at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. During his 32 year tenure at Miami, he taught courses in the Music Education Curriculum, served as Musical Director for all Musical Theatre productions, in addition to conducting the bands. He retired in 2005 with the distinction of Professor Emeritus. Recently, Dr. Liles joined Bands In MotionTM, as a staff arranger. His first complete, competitive marching band show is “Ancient Battlefields”. In addition, he is in demand as an adjudicator, clinician, and guest conductor throughout the Midwest.
