Arrangers Jack Liles and Taylor Cash have transformed veteran composer Steven Reineke’s The Witch and The Saint into a five movement showcase. The first movement begins with a Gregorian chantlike motif that propels into a driving mixed meter theme in a minor mode. The second movement provides solo opportunities for horn, trumpet, flute and clarinet. The third and fourth movements incorporate quotes from the Berlioz Symphony Fantastic (“The Witch’s Sabbath”) with Reineke’s haunting, minor melodies. The fifth (optional) movement provides a quiet resolution to the show. This popular composition explores multiple ranges of emotion from driving, forceful themes to the quiet resolution of the final movement.
